Hydro-Quebec

Hydro-Québec produces, transmits and distributes electricity. The Government of Quebec is its sole shareholder. Renewable sources of energy, and more particularly hydraulic energy, are exploited. The corporation also supports the development of wind power through purchases from private producers. Hydro-Québec also benefits from the quasi-total production of the Churchill Falls generating station in Labrador, bringing its total production capacity to more than 40 000 megawatts. The corporation has some four million customers served by more than 20 000 employees. According to the 2009 Hydro-Québec annual report, the corporation owns 60 hydroelectric generating stations, 27 thermal plants and one nuclear power plant.
